IMI-Sponsored Golf Professional Stan Utley Secures Top 10 Spot

7/13/2007

A Golf Digest survey of the country’s best instructors has ranked IMI-sponsored Golf Professional Stan Utley in the Top 10 of its America’s Fifty Greatest Teachers survey. The biennial report was published in August 2007 editions of Golf Digest, which is on newsstands, now.

Utley was one of only six new faces to join the 50 Greatest ranking this year, and he was the only new teacher to break into the Top 10, a feat that Golf Digest described as “the most spectacular debut” of its survey. Utley secured the No. 9 spot in the ranking.

Utley turned professional in 1984 after an outstanding college career at the University of Missouri. He won the PGA Tour’s Chattanooga Classic and notched three career victories on the Nike Tour (now the Nationwide Tour): the 1993 Nike Cleveland Open, the 1995 Nike Louisiana Open and the Nike Miami Valley Open.

While on Tour, Utley developed a knack for helping other players with their short games. Thanks to great word of mouth from his fellow PGA Tour players, Utley was able to successfully embark on a highly successful second career as a full-time golf instructor. His students have included Jay Haas, Peter Jacobsen, Paul McGinley, Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood, among others.

Today, Utley’s teaching philosophy and game improvement methods are consistently profiled in Golf Digest , on the Golf Channel, and in his new book “The Art of Putting.” Resort Living magazine ( www.ResortLiving.com ) also publishes Utley’s golfing tips in a regular column titled “Short Game with Stan.”

Utley currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, with his wife and children.
